MANILA, Philippines — Kababaihan, an organization committed to promoting women’s rights and inclusivity in governance, recently provided free medical and diagnostic services to persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) at the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) in Mandaluyong City.
Held last December 6, the outreach program benefitted over 300 PDLs, primarily senior citizens and those with health challenges.

In line with the holiday season and the 18-day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW), Kababaihan underscored its commitment to safeguarding women’s rights and well-being. During the event, Pinay Girl Boss founder Atty. Tina de Guzman and Atty. Fofo Fernandez conducted a lecture on women’s empowerment, highlighting the critical role that women play in creating a more inclusive society.
Article continues after this advertisementLegal services were also provided through a collaboration between the DOJAC, the Integrated Bar of the Philippines – Rizal-San Juan-Mandaluyong (IBP-RSM) Chapter led by Atty. Jam Ibanez, and the Legal Aid Society of the Philippines headed by Atty. Joseph Migrino. Volunteer paralegals from the Philippine Law School (PLS) offered additional support, ensuring female PDLs received comprehensive assistance.
Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla extended a heartfelt message to the women PDLs, emphasizing the government’s dedication to protecting their rights.
“To our fellow Filipinos undergoing reformation, please bear in your hearts that this government is never remiss in protecting and safeguarding your rights. Accept this simple token of my appreciation for your perseverance. I wish all of you a merry and meaningful Christmas,” he said.
The event showcased a collaborative effort to address the immediate needs of female PDLs, providing both practical assistance and empowerment to help improve their circumstances.
